[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Orange + cashew smoothie?? Sounds strange, unless you don’t like bananas and you’re saying hallelujah right now.
The cashews make this smoothie so creamy, and also balances out the acidity of the oranges. Add a raw egg if you want some extra protein, it adds a whole new level of creaminess too. You’ll think I’m nuts until you give it a go.
* I recommend that you have a good source of fresh organic eggs – as you know I only have the backyard version from my beloved hens and it doesn’t get much better than that.. if you’re after an ethical organic source, I used to love buying Madeline’s Eggs from Earth and Sky Organics (both Victorian based companies). Avoid ALL non-organic, non-free range supermarket eggs at all costs.
You’ll need a good blender for this. if yours isn’t crash hot make sure you soak the cashews overnight. You can soak them in the orange juice and there’s one less thing to do in the morning
* For a vegan version – take out the egg and add a few more cashews, a peach or some young coconut flesh.
2 oranges – 1 juiced, the other peeled and chopped up. Keep a slither of the rind, it adds a lovely zest!
10 whole cashews
1 organic, free range egg
1 dessert spoon hemp or sunflower seeds
1/3 cup coconut water
1/2 cup ice
Put all ingredients into your blender and blend on high for at least a minute and check to see if it’s super smooth. Pour over some more ice, for some reason it’s amazing when it’s really cold.
Sip through a straw 🙂
