Why this lesser known part of our lives is so important
Do you ever ask yourself what this crazy and amazing life is all about? Do you rush on through your day on autopilot and barely stop to give it a moments thought?
In our modern, materialistic and busy lives, we seldom take time out to ponder and question life and our place in it, yet I believe this is fundamental to having a rewarding and purposeful life. Imagine having more spring in your step, boundless energy, connection, inspiration, and passion for the life you live, instead of dragging yourself out of bed each morning to a “meh” kind of day.
So how do you actually get that spring in your step??
Here’s a few ways I think will help you to find meaning in every day so you can’t wait to get out there and enjoy a meaningful life..
Do what you love
Follow your bliss, find your inner happy or do what you’re passionate about. This doesn’t have to be complicated, it’s as simple as finding time in your day to do what you love to do, even for 5 minutes.
Start what I call an ‘I Love’ list and start paying attention to what it is that you love in your life. Write ‘I Love’ at the top of a blank sheet of paper, and write a few things on it every day like: I love: ‘blackbirds singing, moonlight, sunny days, my cat/dog/goldfish’ etc. Once you start, you’ll be surprised at how many things float your boat. Then, what you pay attention to grows, and before you know it your life is filled with things you love, are excited about and make you feel happy.
Nurture Positive Relationships
Sometimes we find ourselves in a place where our friendships aren’t great, or our partner isn’t fulfilling our needs, or we’re lacking a certain type of connection in our lives. This is time to sit and ask yourself about what you would like your relationships to look like. What kinds of friends/connections would you like? What sorts of things do you do together? What do you bring to this relationship? Keep it simple and choose to spend time with people who make you feel good, and reduce time around those who bring you down. Most importantly here is to nurture your relationship with yourself, take care of your needs first, always.
Get out of your Comfort Zone
You know, that place where you go and do things that are easy, cushy and habitual. It’s the ‘stuck zone’ and no magic happens there. It’s completely ok to feel comfortable, but every now and again try shaking it up and do something different. Turn off your TV and phone and read a book, or doodle on a piece of paper, or go for a walk in the moonlight, eat dinner with your hands.. use your imagination and turn ordinary experiences into something a little different. This way you can discover new things and you may be surprised by life!
Be Generous, Grateful and Kind
Ok so this is my way to talk about ‘paying it forward’, gratitude and kindness in one paragraph. Oh and I’m going to throw compassion and forgiveness in here too. All these things are free, and they create a whole load of warm fuzzy feelings, in you and in those around you. Don’t you think we need more warm fuzzy instead of dog-eat-dog and every man for himself? Kindness, compassion, generosity and gratitude are at the core of our human experience. They connect us, humble us and bring us into this beautiful moment.
* Go on, go do something nice for someone like buy the next person’s coffee or pay someones parking ticket or help a little old lady on the train.
* Be thankful for everything you are and have and bless those around you that have/are who you want to be too.
* Practice kindness, it’s free and has more value than you can imagine.
* Be compassionate, gentle and loving towards yourself and others. Drop being hard on yourself and put your whip away.
* Forgive people faster. Practicing forgiveness helps you move on and begin to accept that others make mistakes, and it helps you let go of a lot of negative energy.
So, as they say.. knowledge is great but action is what makes things happen!

Have a great week 🙂
